Street Fighting in Fallujah: What Did He Say??!

SecDef Rumsfeld said today that there was little possibility of large numbers of Iraqi civilians getting killed as coalition and Iraqi ground forces engage militants in street combat for control of Falljuah.

Why does he make statements like that? Of course there will be large numbers of civilians killed or wounded. When you’re talking about 200,000 non-combatants being in between the coalition and the insurgents, and bullets and bombs flying in every direction, of course there will be large numbers of Iraqi civilians killed or wounded. Plus the enemy looks like the civilian population AND the enemy has no problem with gunning down unarmed civilians to throw blame on the coaltion.

With untold thousands of Iraqi civilians dead from this war, and tens of thousands more wounded, “one would think” (Rumsfeld lingo) that the Secretary of Defense would learn not to make broad statements like that.

It’s statements like this that make me think that Rumsfeld needs to retire.
